"The
whole liturgical life of the Church revolves around the Eucharistic
sacrifice and the sacraments.29 There are seven sacraments in the
Church: Baptism, Confirmation or Chrismation, Eucharist, Penance,
Anointing of the Sick, Holy Orders, and Matrimony. CCC 1113
"Adhering
to the teaching of the Holy Scriptures, to the apostolic traditions,
and to the consensus . . . of the Fathers," we profess that "the
sacraments of the new law were . . . all instituted by Jesus Christ our
Lord." CCC 1114
"Sacraments
are "powers that comes forth" from the Body of Christ, which is
ever-living and life-giving. They are actions of the Holy Spirit at
work in his Body, the Church. They are "the masterworks of God" in the
new and everlasting covenant." CCC 1116
Sacrament of Baptism
"Holy
Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life
in the Spirit (vitae spiritualis ianua), and the door which gives
access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin
and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are
incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: "Baptism
is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word." CCC 1213
Baptisms are held on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month at
12:00 Noon. Arrangements must be made in advance at the Rectory.
Pre-Jordan Classes
These classes are a prerequisite for parents who want their infants/children baptized.
Parents must attend one class.
Classes:
7:00-8:00 PM on the last Monday of every month
in the rectory meeting room.
Parents must call the rectory (610-485-2520) in advance to register for the class.
Godparents
should be practicing Catholics who deliver a certificate/letter of
eligibility from their pastor one week before the Baptism.
Sacrament of Penance (Reconciliation)
"Those
who approach the sacrament of Penance obtain pardon from God's mercy
for the offense committed against him, and are, at the same time,
reconciled with the Church which they have wounded by their sins and
which by charity, by example, and by prayer labors for their
conversion." CCC 1422, LG 11 # 2.
Confessions at Holy Saviour are held on Saturday
afternoon between 4:15 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. or anytime at the Rectory.
Special holiday schedules will be posted in the Bulletin or on our Website.
Sacrament of Holy Eucharist
"The holy Eucharist completes Christian
initiation. Those who have been raised to the dignity of the royal
priesthood by Baptism and configured more deeply to Christ by
Confirmation participate with the whole community in the Lord's own
sacrifice by means of the Eucharist." CCC 1322
"To prepare for worthy reception of this
sacrament, the faithful should observe the fast required in their
Church. Bodily demeanor (gestures, clothing) ought to convey the
respect, solemnity, and joy of this moment when Christ becomes our
guest." CCC 1387
"Anyone conscious of a grave sin must receive the sacrament of Reconciliation before coming to communion." CCC 1385
The
Faithful may receive Holy Communion at our Sunday or Daily Mass. If you
are homebound, and unable to come to Church, you may call the rectory
to arrange for Communion to be brought to your home.
First Holy Communion
Preparations for first Holy Communion of children are normally handled
during school or CCD. Special arrangements and instructions for adults
and children outside of the school, CCD or RICA programs can be made by
contacting Rectory.
Sacrament of Confirmation
"Baptism, the Eucharist, and the sacrament of
Confirmation together constitute the "sacraments of Christian
initiation," whose unity must be safeguarded. It must be explained to
the faithful that the reception of the sacrament of Confirmation is
necessary for the completion of baptismal grace. For "by the sacrament
of Confirmation, [the baptized] are more perfectly bound to the Church
and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they
are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and
defend the faith by word and deed." CCC 1285
This
sacrament is generally administered by a bishop of the Archdiocese.
Individuals who come into the Catholic Church as adults can receive the
Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Communion at the Vigil of
Easter on Holy Saturday evening as part of the RCIA program.
The Sacrament of Confirmation will be administered at Holy
Saviour by Bishop Daniel E. Thomas on Tuesday, December 1, 2009
at 4:00 PM Adults and teenagers wishing to be confirmed should
call the rectory at 610-485-2520.
Sacrament of Matrimony
"The matrimonial covenant, by which a man and
a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of
life, is by its nature ordered toward the good of the spouses and the
procreation and education of offspring; this covenant between baptized
persons has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a
sacrament." CCC 1601
There are a few Pre-Requisites in the preparations
for the Sacrament of Matrimony. Please contact the Rectory at least six
months ahead of time to discus your wedding arrangements and to
schedule Pre-Cana instructions.

Anointing of the Sick
"By the sacred anointing of the sick and the
prayer of the priests the whole Church commends those who are ill to
the suffering and glorified Lord, that he may raise them up and save
them. And indeed she exhorts them to contribute to the good of the
People of God by freely uniting themselves to the Passion and death of
Christ." LG 11 CCC 1499
Periodically there will be “Healing
Masses” throughout our cluster in which this sacrament will be
administered. Please refer to the Bulletin for the next scheduled “Healing Mass”.
